1958 Cadillac Coupe De Ville

Last updated on July 12, 2023

Today’s car is a a 1958 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe De Ville. I photographed this car at the LA Roadster Show, in the Specialty Parking area, held at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA. It is finished in two-tone Dakota Red lower and black top with a Black leather interior. It is powered by a 310 hp, 364 cu in, V8 engine, with a Rochester 4 bbl carburetor. It is mated to a 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission with 3.07:1 rear axle gear ratio. Slowing this beauty down are power assisted drum brakes in all 4-corners with a Dual master cylinder. It has independent front suspension with dual A-arms, coil springs and tube shock absorbers. The rear suspension has a live axle has coil springs and tube shocks.

With the expansion of suburbia and a build-out of the US highway system. The rise of the car culture was a certain with result of cars becoming bigger, faster, and more ornate. That said 1958 was the lowest production year since 1954. The total number 0f Cadillacs produced was 121,778 with 105,127 of them being Series 62’s and of those 18,441 were Coupe De Ville’s. The MSRP was $5,251.00. The published top speed of 120 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 10.5 seconds. This is a beautiful example of an original post war car. What a great car to take to GM / Cadillac car shows, Cars and Coffee events or just a cruising from car event to car event. Thank you for riding along. Frank
