1930 Lancia Dilambda BS (Blue Shadow)

Last updated on March 25, 2023

Today’s car is a 1930 Lancia Dilambda, Series I, Drop Head Coupe by Carlton Carriage and is owned by Filippo Sole.  It is finished in a Two-Tone Blue with Blue interior and Blue convertible top & boot. I saw this car at The Queen’s English all British Car Show in Woodley Park in Van Nuys, CA.

I know, so what is an Italian car doing at an all British car show? Well, the car was produced in 1930 by the highly respected London coach builder Carlton Carriage Co. in London. Who were very well known for their drop head coupes and the car is RHD. It is powered by a 4.0 liter, 24° V8, with a vertical Zenith 105 double-barrel carburetor with acceleration pump, producing 100 hp. Transferring that power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission and delivering that power to the rear wheels through 3.70:1 rear end. Helping slow this beauty down are mechanical brakes with aluminum drums all around. The front suspension is a rigid axle, with longitudinal semi-elliptical leaf springs and the rear suspension is live axle with longitudinal semi-elliptical leaf springs. Both the front and rear have mechanical friction shock absorbers.

These Lancia’s were produced between 1928 – 1935 with a total of 1,685 built.. The first series Lancia was produced between 1928 and 1931 with a total of 1,104 built. This is a very rare car. Beautifully restored to concourse level. The 2021 winner of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este (Italian for ‘Competition of Elegance of Villa d’Este’), one of the most prestigious classic car events in the world. I was surprised to see this car at The Queens English. I just love when people share their treasures. Oh! By the way Filippo just drove the car across counrty. Thank you Filippo and thanks for riding along. Frank
